| Description | From: the prior and convent of Norwich Cathedral Priory To: the mayor, sheriffs, citizens and commonalty of Norwich In £100. By an indenture dated 26 Aug 1524, the priory granted that all its tenants and farmers and all the inhabitants living within the priory and its outer walls or in the houses upon the walls who were not liable for tenths granted by the clergy should be chargeable for any fifteenth, tax, aid or subsidy granted to the king by parliament as the like the citizens. These taxes were to be assessed by the prior and collected by his servants. The priory also granted that whenever the mayor, sheriffs, citizens and commonalty of Norwich come to the cathedral priory or church the mayor shall have the sword and mace carried before him. It also allowed the mayor, sheriffs, citizens and commonalty to enclose of 80 acres of pasture and 6 feet of ground belonging to the priory in the suburbs of Norwich and outside towards Eaton and Lakenham and in Eaton and Lakenham, where they and their predecessors claimed common of pasture, as Sir Robert Brudenell, knight, and Sir Richard Broke, knight, justices of assize for Norfolk, assigned. When the land is enclosed, the priory shall do anything necessary to assure the title to it. If the priory observes the provisions of the indenture, the bond is to be void. No date.
