The majority of charters in this section relate to the manor of Mersham in Kent, which lies just south of Ashford. DCc-ChAnt/M/9, DCc-ChAnt/M/16 and DCc-ChAnt/M/17 relate to the manor of Agney, in Romney Marsh. DCc/Register/C, ff238r-242v contains 25 charters for Mersham and there are 9 charters for Mersham in DCc/Register/E, ff279v-281r.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/M/38A-38C
These charters relate to the manor of Merstham in Surrey, which sits on the North Downs just above Reigate. There are 27 Merstham charters in DCc/Register/B, f319r and ff337v-341v and 19 charters for Merstham in DCc/Register/C, ff365r-367v, but none of these registered versions corresponds to original charters in this collection.

The majority of charters in this section relate to Mongeham in east Kent, which lies just 2 miles west of Deal. DCc-ChAnt/M/58 relates to the manor of Eastry, just south-west of Sandwich. DCc/Register/C, ff59r-65v contains 36 charters for Mongeham and there are 35 charters for Mongeham in DCc/Register/E, ff206r-211v.

The charters in this section relate to the manor of Meopham in west Kent, which is situated above the River Medway, to the west of Rochester. DCc/Register/D, ff480r-494r contains 55 charters for Meopham and there are 11 charters for Meopham in DCc/Register/E, ff347r-348v. There are copies of many of the Meopham charters in the priory almoner's register which is now Bodleian Library Tanner MS 18. DCc-ChAnt/M/99 relates to several places besides Meopham and has been registered in the Elverton section of the register.

The majority of charters in this section relate to the manor of Monkton in east Kent, which is on the River Stour, on the south west corner of the Isle of Thanet. DCc-ChAnt/M/140 relates to the manor of Adisham, near Canterbury. DCc/Register/C, ff129v-147v contains 43 charters for Monkton and there are 14 charters for Monkton in DCc/Register/E, ff203r-205r. A number of charters relate to grants of land for the provision of lights in Canterbury Cathedral and these have been recorded in the sections for the relevant altars and chapels of DCc/Register/A and DCc/Register/E. There are also registered versions of Monkton charters in the almoner's cartualry, Bodl MS Tanner 18.

These charters relate to Minster in Thanet in east Kent. There are no charters for Minster in DCc/Register/A-E.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/M/212-222
These charters relate to Maidstone, the county town of Kent, which lies on the River Medway, 8 miles south of Rochester. There are no charters for Maidstone in DCc/Register/A-E.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/M/223-225
The majority of these charters relate to the manor of Mersea in Essex, which lies 9 miles south of Colchester. DCc/Register/B, f141v contains 4 charters for Mersea and there are 3 charters for Mersea in DCc/Register/E, f384r. Only one of these registered versions corresponds to an original charter in this collection. Alderman Bunce catalogued some of the charters which relate to Murzie in Marden under the heading of Mersea.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/M/226-237B
The majority of these charters relate to the parish of Marden which lies in the Weald of Kent, about 8 miles south west of Maidstone.
Many of these charters are connected with Leeds Priory, but most of Leeds Priory's property, including the manor of Marden, was granted to the Dean and Chapter of Rochester at the Dissolution. The documents have no obvious connection with Canterbury and may only have come here in the 1660s, when the cathedral's archives were returned after the Restoration.

The majority of these charters relate to the manor of Middleton, which lies near Southend in south east Essex. DCc/Register/B, f48v contains 3 charters for Middleton and there are 4 charters for Middleton in DCc/Register/E, f377r.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/M/241-399
The remaining charters relate to various places beginning with M and places which cannot be identified. This section also contains documents which Alderman Bunce has classified as miscellaneous because they do not fit into any of the categories used elsewhere in his catalogue. The documents for places beginning with M include 9 charters relating to marshland at Misleham in Brookland (DCc-ChAnt/M/340G and DCc-ChAnt/M/392A-H). The miscellaneous charters include 2 groups of documents relating to the exercise of the cathedral priory's sede vacante jurisdiction in the vacancies of 1240-1245 and 1292-1294 (DCc-ChAnt/M/364 and DCc-ChAnt/M/256). A number of charters (DCc-ChAnt/M/281, DCc-ChAnt/M/299-305, DCc-ChAnt/M/308, DCc-ChAnt/M/387 and DCc-ChAnt/M/399) relate to the missions of Sir William Sturmy, John Kington and William Brampton to the Hanseatic towns in 1405 and 1407. John Kington became a monk at Canterbury Cathedral Priory in 1410 (see entry in Greatrex, under Kynton), which perhaps explains why the records are here.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/M/400-500
These documents have not previously been catalogued. DCc-ChAnt/M/400-420 relate to Marden, Merstham, Milton near Canterbury, Minster in Thanet, Monks Eleigh and Monkton. The remaining documents relate to places which cannot be identified and subjects which cannot be fitted elsewhere into Bunce's scheme and have been arranged in a single, chronological, sequence. DCc-ChAnt/M/461-464 relate to the missions of Sir William Sturmy, John Kington and William Brampton to the Hanseatic towns. |
