The king has decided to raise two armies for a war against Scotland, to avenge the cruelty and dishonour done by the Scots. The commissioners for the city of Canterbury will explain this in detail. The council has contributed a large sum of money and the king has also contributed out of his own coffer, but another £40,000 is still needed. The king therefore requests a loan of £40 to be repaid by 30 Nov next. The money must be taken to the receipt by 2 Feb next and a bill will be issued for repayment. Sign manual of Henry VII. Signet letter. Dated 1 Dec, no year. [Date: Date of Henry VII's war with Scotland. The king and the addressee are not named.]
