Concerning the amendment of all injuries done to members of the society of the Hanse by the king's subjects. The king's merchants and Hanse merchants can trade as freely and safely as they did in 1400 for a year and 7 months. William and John grant that on 1 May they will, at Dordrecht in Holland or elsewhere, settle any injuries done to the inhabitants of Prussia and Livonia by the king's subjects in Prussia as contained in an indenture dated 8 Oct 1405 at the castle of Marienberg [West Prussia, Germany]. They also promise that after they return to England all the merchants' privileges granted by the kings of England should be observed. If anything is attempted against these privileges it shall immediately be put right. If any harm is done to any of the citizens of the Hanse towns in their persons, ships or goods within the year and 7 months, it shall be amended and compensation made, in accordance with the indenture. William and John will also on 1 May deal with any cases of drowning or murder by the English, in accordance with a schedule by Albert Rode, consul ('consul') of the city of 'Thoren'' [possibly Thorn in Poland] and the representatives of the Hanse towns. William and John's part of indenture. Given at Dordrecht [Zuid Holland, Netherlands]. |
