| Description | Party: the dean and chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Party: Richard Knatchbull of Mersham, gent The dean and chapter have given Richard licence to enclose a piece of the high way or common at Mersham, 13 rood long, 3 rood, 3 poles wide at the south end and 1½ roods long at the other end. In exchange Richard has enlarged the common by laying out a piece of his land, 10 roods long and 5 roods wide, lying with the common to north, with Richard's land to south and the lands of John Litle to east, as is described in an entry relating to the enclosure in the court rolls of the manor of Mersham. The enclosure is made with the consent of the tenants of the manor. The dean and chapter agree that they will not interrupt Richard's possession of the land or take any advantage of amercements or taxes that may be levied on it for encroachment on the common. If Richard encloses the land that he has laid out so that it can no longer be used as part of the common the agreement is to be void. Dean and chapter's part of indenture. Richard's signature on plica.
