| Description | From: the mayor and aldermen of the city of London
Exemplification of an assize of fresh force ('frisca forcia') held at the Guildhall, London, on 12 Nov 1429 before Ralph Holand and William Rus, sheriffs of London. William [Molashe, I], prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory, claimed that Henry Hamond, rector of St Peter Westcheap, London, John Barnet, Robert Elkyn, John Withiale and John Astell, churchwardens ('custos operis eiusdem ecclesie') and Robert Smyth had disseised him of a rent of 6s 8d, payable for a tenement in St Lawrence Pountney parish, London. They deny the accusation and Henry says that the tenement is a messuage and is outside the prior's fee. Details of the prior's evidence, alleging that his predecessors John Fynch and Thomas Chillenden [I] were both seised of the rent. The assize was taken and the jurors, Geoffrey Gebon', Richard Chipman, John Sadeler, John Boram, Robert Rose, William Bevereche, William Colston', Robert Cristendom', Richard Lynne, William Child, John Harrys and Stephen Colley, confirm the prior's version of events. They say that Prior Wibert [I] was seised of the rent in the time of King Henry [II] and that the rent has been in arrears for 50 years and they assess damages and costs at 100s. The prior is to recover seisin of the rent, damages, costs and arrears, amounting in all to 32 marks 6s 8d, and Henry, John, Robert, John, John and Robert are in mercy. Exemplified at the prior's request.
