John [Wodnesbergh II], prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory, claimed that William Audeby, citizen and mercer of London, had disseised him of a a rent of 8s, payable for a tenement in St Lawrence Jewry parish, London. William says that the tenement is a messuage which was of Richard Plefrensh', lying with the tenement of the Mercers' Company ('mistera'), London, which was of Katherine Stanford, to east, the king's highway called 'Sentlaurencelane' to west, the tenement of John Eynsham, which was of Ralph de Brazyngge, to south and the lane called 'Sevehodeslane' to north and that it is not part of the prior's demsene. Details of prior's evidence, including the fact the William redeemed 2 pieces of buckram taken as a distraint for arrears. The assize was taken and the jurors, Richard Bures, John Simmon, Richard Grove, John Waltham, John Chadde, Alexander Sprot, Thomas Barowe, Richard Widyhale, John Teukesbury, John Peryngton', Walter Adam and William Botreaux, confirm the prior's version of events. They say that William owes 54s for 6¾ years' arrears and assess damages and costs at 26s 8d. They also say that Prior John [de Sittingbourne?, I], was seised from Alan son of Peter in the time of King John. The prior remits the damages and costs. He is to recover seisin of the rent and the arrears of 54s and William is in mercy. Exemplified at the prior's request.
