[The priory is acting sede vacante.] The see of London is vacant following the death, on 24 Jul 1313, of Bishop Ralph Baldock, who was buried in St Paul's on 31 Jul. The chapter obtained the king's permisssion to elect a new bishop and decided to hold the election on 17 Aug. Details of litrugy on the day of the election. It was decided to adopt the procedure of electing by delegates, and Mgr Richard de Newport, archdeacon of Middlesex, Mgr Richard de Gravesend, cathedral treasurer, Mgr Stephen de Gravesend, Mgr William de Chaddleshunt and Mgr Gilbert de Middleton were chosen by their fellow canons. The delegates consulted their fellow canons and chose Mgr Gilbert de Segrave, professor of canon law and precentor of St Paul's and appointed the archdeacon of Middlesex to make the election. Recites the archdeacon's proclamation. The chapter approved the election, led the bishop elect to the high altar and caused the archdeacon to publish the result of the election before the clergy and people in a language intelligible to everyone.
