DescriptionFrom: the priory's poor ('pouere') tenants of the franchise of Leysdown
To: the prior and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory

The tenants ask that they should be allowed to perform the customs and services performed by their ancestors. Details of ploughing, harrowing, reaping and threshing services and food and drink to be received when each service is performed. The tenants also claim an annual livery of 2 seams of wheat, a sheep worth 18d, a cheese worth 6d and 50 gallons of ale. They also claim the right to pasture their beasts but allege that the priory's serjeant is demanding 4d for each beast and 1d for every 5 sheep. It is known throughout the whole hundred of Milton that their claim is just. Some alterations and interlineations. No date. [Date: handwriting.]
