| Description | From: the prior of St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury, [papal judge delegate]; the prior of Monks Horton Priory, [papal judge delegate]; the prior of Faversham Abbey, [papal judge delegate]
Recites the mandate of Pope Honorius III, dated 11 Nov 1219 at Viterbo [Viterbo, Italy]. The prior and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory have complained that the prior and convent of Leeds Priory, R[eginald] de Cornhell' and W de Ceritun', knights, and other clerks and laymen of the dioceses of Canterbury, London and Winchester have injured them concerning tithes, rents, possessions, debts and other matters. The pope delegates the case to three priors. The judges summoned Mgr William, rector of Eythorne ('persona de Egethorn') and the priory's proctor, and heard the priory's accusation ('intentio') concerning the theft ('spoliatio') of an annual payment of 5s, paid by Walter de crauthorn and his predecessors as tithes of their land, and William's denial ('contradictio'). The witnesses' evidence established that the rector should pay the priory the 5s on 7 Sep each year. The judges therefore sentence to rector to pay yearly what Walter's heirs should answer for at the priory's treasury on that date. Given at Canterbury Cathedral church ('in ecclesia majori').
