| Description | From: Thomas Chillenden, I, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory; the convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory To: Stephen Asketyn of Marden parish
Evidence shows that the priory's predecessors leased their estate ('fundu') in Horsmonden in the denn of Badmonden for fealty, suit of court of their manor of East Farleigh, and unspecified payments. Reserving to the priory all the wood of the denn, now called 'drovedenne'. The present tenants ('tenentes moderni') and other intruders ('invasores') have been infringing the priory's timber rights. The priory grants Stephen timber rights as specified in the wood on the denn upon his land, the lands of John Meller', John Frost, John Matte, James Austyn and William Badecok', free tenants at the priory's court of 'Forieris', and the wood upon the land of Thomas Bearspiche and John Fordhull' and Richard Fordhull', his joint tenants. For an annual rent of assize of 12d, payable as specified. Right of distraint if payment in arrears. Priory's part of indenture. Given at Canterbury.
Endorsed with description, stating that the grant relates to East Farleigh, and date in 15th cent hands. |
