| Description | From: William Gull To: [Richard Rogers,] bishop of Dover
He has received a reply from the clerk of the Fishmongers Company, which he encloses, concerning a rent claimed from them. When he comes [to Kent] he will attend the bishop, rather than requiring a written reply, and he does not think that any harm will come from the delay. Enclosing letter from Robert Glover on behalf of the Fishmongers Company [London], dated 12 Nov 1587 at Fishmongers Hall. The Fishmongers do not accept that they own the land from which the rent is due, nor can they find any documentary evidence about it. However, they do not wish to quarrel and are willing to pay the rent of 40s in future and to give the Dean and Chapter a covenant to that effect, although they are not willing to pay the arrears. Given at Grays Inn [Middlesex].
Endorsed with address in late 16th cent hand and description, stating that it relates to 'the peweter pott' [London], in 17th cent hand. |
