TitleDecree
PreviousNumbersR 234 (Norris); I 250 (late 19th c)
Date14 May 1552
DescriptionFrom: Edward VI, king of England

Recites a decree (in English) of the Chancellor, one of the Surveyors General, the Attorney and the Solictor of the Court of Augmentations, dated 6 May 1552. £17 10s was claimed from the dean and chapter of Canterbury, being the amount due for 3½ years ending 29 Sep last for a rent of 100s and arrears payable from the rectory of Icklesham ('Ikellesham') in Sussex for the maintenance of a morrow mass priest.
By letters patent dated 23 May 1541, Henry VIII granted the rectory to the dean and chapter and agreed to acquit them of any payments with which the rectory was charged. From this and other evidence it is clear that the dean and chapter should not pay the yearly rent and the arrears, and the Chancellor, Surveyor General, Attorney and Solicitor, in the absence of Sir Thomas Moyle, knight, the other surveyor general, order that they should be discharged of them. Sent patent. Note on the plica that the document was enrolled by Thomas Wyseman, deputy auditor, on 22 Jun.
Given at Westminster [Middlesex].

Witnesses: Richard Sakevile, knight

Endorsed 'Decanus et Capitulum Ecclesie Cathedralis xpi in Cantuar'' and 'Decretum' in 16th cent hands.
