DescriptionFrom: Henry VI, king of England

Recites a record on the roll of the remembrancer of the Irish Exchequer for Easter Term 1427. An inquisition held before the barons of the Exchequer on 24 Apr 1409 had found the prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory was absent from Ireland after 24 Jun 1379, contrary to the ordinance made by Richard II, and that he had a rent of 13 marks in County Wexford ('Weys'') from the abbot of Tintern as a pension for all the priory's possessions in County Wexford. Two parts of the pension had been taken into the king's hands on 27 May 1381 and that the abbot received them and answered for them to the king, as is contained the inquisition of 1409. Afterwards Prior John [Wodnesbergh, II,] came by his attorney William Chevyr to the barons of the Exchequer on 11 May 1427 ('hoc termino' in abl) and showed that he had satisfied the king for the two parts of the pension from 24 Jun 1379 to 5 Jan 1423.
The king, by letters patent dated 5 Jan 1423, granted the prior and convent licence to receive the pension from Tintern Abbey and to have it sent to England. Recites the letters patent dated 5 Jan 1423 (DCc-ChAnt/I/247). After considering these records the barons decided that the king had no right to retain the two parts of the pension and that they should no longer remain in his hands. Exemplified at William Chevir's request.
Given at Dublin [County Dublin, Ireland].
