Addressed to his archbishops, bishops, abbots, earls, barons, justices, sheriffs, servants and subjects in Ireland. The king has taken the prior and monks of Canterbury Cathedral Priory and all their men, lands, possessions and rents and all things, ecclesiastical and lay, into his protection, wherever they are. He commands the addressees to protect the priory, its men, lands and possessions. Pleas concerning the priory's possessions are only to come before the king or his chief justiciar. Dated 3 Jun, no year. [Date: John's dates. William de Braose died 9 Aug 1211. According to the itinerary printed before the main text of T D Hardy (ed), Rotuli Litterarum Patentium...ab anno MCCI ad annum MCCXVI (Record Commissioners, 1835), the only year in which John was at Caen on 3 Jun was 1200.] Given at Caen [Calvados, France].
