Description | Genealogical tree of the descendants of Noah, including mythical kings of Britain, such as Brutus, Lear ('Leyr') and Lud (recto) and chart showing succession of popes and emperors of Rome (verso), with commentaries. Additional comments and dates from the beginning of the world, including events AD, have been added in a 14th cent hand. Possibly based partly on a universal history such as Peter of Poitiers's 'Genealogy of Christ' (see N J Morgan 'Early Gothic Manuscripts', vol 1 no 43). Part of a roll, end lost. Probably used in a binding. The names in the tree are enclosed in alternating blue and red medallions, connected with blue, red and brown[?] lines. Letters at the beginning of each column in blue, ornamented with red pen-flourishing; initial letters of each paragraph in red.
Endorsed with description as the great chronicle of England and the emperors of Rome in 14th cent hand. Antiquarian title 'Pedigree of the Nations'. |
