Description | From: the prior of St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury; the prior of St Gregory's Priory, Canterbury; the prior of Faversham Abbey
Recites the mandate of Pope Honorius III, dated 10 Feb 1222. The prior and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory have complained to the pope that R of Lenham ('Lenha'') and H of Sandwich ('Sandwico'), knights, and Copinus son of Adam and other, clerks and laymen, of the dioceses of Canterbury, Lincoln and London, are injuring them in their tithes, rents, possessions, debts and other matters. The pope commands the addressees to hear and determine the case. The addressees summoned William son of Conan of Holbeach concerning an annual payment of 4s, payable to the priory for 7 acres of land in Holbeach. The priory also sought arrears of 68s. William acknowledged that he was bound to pay the 4s and the priory remitted 24s of the arrears. He promised to pay the 4s each year at Canterbury as specified, and to pay the same amount for a relief when it fell due. The land is not to become part of the endowment of William's church ('vacatione possessionis vel detencionis predicti Willelmi nichil juris accrescet ecclesie sue') and he is not to sell it to a religious house. Given at Canterbury.
