In the king's court at Westminster before Robert de Lexinton, William of York, Adam Fitz-William and William de Culeworth, justices, and others, on 9 May 1238.
The prior is represented by Richard de Suwell', monk, his proctor. The prior acknowledges that 9 acres of land in Godmersham are the right of Robert, for an annual payment of 9d, payable as specified. In return, Robert quitclaims for his right in the commons of the priory's woods of Blean ('Blean') and Eggringe ('Aderinge') [in Godmersham]. Reserving to Robert the ancient and customary ('usitatus') ways in the woods for driving ('chacianda') carts and waggons and all forms of transport ('cariagia') and his beasts. Also reserving to Robert pasture of the king's highway ('regalis chiminus') which goes through the crossroads ('furcae') of Blean to the chapel of Blean. Robert is not to have any common in the woods or assarts of Blean because of the use of the roads.
