DescriptionFrom: William Courtenay, archbishop of Canterbury

Recites charter of Archbishop John Stratford, assigning a portion for the maintenance of 'Dominus' Nicholas, vicar of Goudhurst ('Goutherst') and his successors, dated 29 Apr 1341.
The church has been appropriated by priory and convent of Leeds Priory. The archbishop assigned a portion valued at £6 10s from offerings, tithes and other income as specified. Mgr John de becon?, canon of Chichester, auditor of causes and the archbishop's commissary, disputed whether the portion was adequate before the canons of Leeds and the vicar. He decided that it was adequate, assessed the tenth at 10 marks and assigned various financial burdens, including responsibility for repairing books and ornaments and for repairing the chancel, to the vicar and Leeds Priory. The archbishop reserves the right to correct, increase and strengthen this assignment of a vicarage.

Endorsed with description in late 14th and 17th cent hands and 'Wm R R iiii' [note of registration by the archbishop's registrar or Leeds Priory?] in late 14th cent hand.
