| Description | Taken before John atte Hawe, the king's escheator in the counties of Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Middlesex.
The jurors say that Thomas [de Ringmere?], late prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory acquired lands as specified from named individuals in Godmersham, Chatham, Farningham and other places before the statute of mortmain. They say that this was done in 21-24HenIII. [1236-1240, but Thomas de Ringmere was prior 1274-1285 and there was no other Prior Thomas in the 13th century.] They also say that Prior Henry [of Eastry] appropriated property as specified from named individuals in Meopham, Elverton ('Eylwarton') [in Stone by Faversham, Old Romney, Halstow and other places after the statute, having obtained a licence from King Edward II, dated 13 Apr 1323 at the Tower of London. They also say that the priory always had suit of court of its tenants of the tithing of Mersham and has not encroached on the king's rights.
