Description | CCA-DCc-ChAnt/F/1-22A This section of charters relates to Farningham and Eynsford in Kent. Farningham is 5½ miles and Eynsford is 6 miles south-east of Foots Cray. DCc-ChAnt/F/1A relates to West Farleigh. DCc-ChAnt/F/156, DCc-ChAnt/F/158 and DCc-ChAnt/F/163 also relate to Farningham. DCc/Register//B, ff1r-14r, contains 29 charters for Farningham and there is 1 charter for Farningham in DCc/Register/E, f349v. There are copies of some of these charters in the priory almoner's register which is now Bodleian Library Tanner MS 18. There are no original charters for a significant number of these registered versions.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/F/23-40 These documents relate to Fairfield manor, Kent, in the Romney Marshes, to Kete Marsh in particular, and to the Marshes in general. The section for Fairfield in DCc/Register/C (ff264r-265r) contains 9 charters. The first 4 of these are in DCc/Register/E (ff289r-290r). There is only an original for no 2 amongst this section of the Chartae. The original for no 5 is DCc-ChAnt/A/128, which is also registered in the Appledore section of the register. The original for no 7 is DCc-ChAnt/A/107.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/F/41-48 Most of this section of charters relates to the town of Fordwich in Kent, which is 2 miles north-east of Canterbury. DCc-ChAnt/F/42 relates to the site of the Poor Priests' Hospital, Canterbury. DCc/Register/C, ff80r-83r, contains 14 charters for Fordwich and there are 12 charters relating to Fordwich in DCc/Register/E, ff218r-221r. There are no original charters for a significant number of these registered versions.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/F/49-63 This section of charters relates to the manor of Vauxhall in Surrey, which is in the borough of Lambeth in London, just across the Thames from Westminster. Several of these charters relate to the endowment of the Black Prince's chantry in Canterbury Cathedral. DCc/Register/B, ff41r-43v, contains 6 charters for Vauxhall. There are no original charters for a significant number of these registered versions.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/F/64-89C This section of charters relates to the town of Faversham in Kent and the surrounding area. Faversham is 9 miles west of Canterbury and 18 miles east-north-east of Maidstone. The dean and chapter acquired property in this area from the estates of St Augustine's Abbey and Faversham Abbey in 1541 and probably received some of these documents at that time. Some of the charters in this section relate to the foundation of Faversham Abbey. DCc/Register/D, ff460r-464r, contains 18 charters for Selgrave. There are no original charters for a significant number of these registered versions.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/F/90-163 Most of this section of charters relates to France, and in particular the wine of St Thomas Becket, granted to the cathedral priory by Louis VII, king of France, in 1179 (see DCc-ChAnt/F/90). There are accounts of the history of St Thomas's wine in J B Sheppard (ed), Literae Cantuarienses vol I (London, 1887), pp lxxvi-lxxxiii and vol III (London, 1889), pp xix-xxiv, and J B Sheppard (ed), Christ Church Letters (Camden Society new series XIX, 1877), pp xxiv-xxix. DCc-ChAnt/F/147A-147D relate to French Protestant refugees in the 17th century. DCc/Register/A, ff267r-275r, contains 44 charters relating to France and there are 36 charters for France in. DCc/Register/E, ff34r-38v. There are no original charters for a significant number of these registered versions.
