| Description | From: Stephen, count of Boulogne; Matilda, countess, wife of Stephen, count of Boulogne To: Canterbury Cathedral Priory
[Exemption from] the toll ('theoloneum') of Wissant ('Witsando') [Pas-de-Calais] for all business concerning the priory, so that the monks and their men may cross and return without any impediment at any time. The grant is made for Stephen and Matilda's souls and the souls of their parents. The document has been placed on the altar of Christ [in the cathedral church]. The grant shall remain in force whether there is peace or strife between the king of the English and the count. No date. [Date: Stephen married Matilda and became count of Boulogne in 1125. He became king of England in 1135.]
