| Description | From: Bernard de Sancto Walerico To: the prior and monks of Canterbury Cathedral Priory
Addressed to all his knights and officers ('minister') of the honour of Sanctus Walericus. He exempts the priory and its servants ('serviens') from pedage and all other customs normally exacted from those crossing in his land or arriving there. They and all their possessions and men are to have his peace. No-one is to exact any custom from them or trouble them about it or initiate a plea ('in placitum pono') against them. The grant is made for the souls of himself, his father and mother, his wife and his heirs and for the love of St Thomas, whom he wishes to have as his helper at the last judgement ('apud iustum iudicem adiutorem habere desidero').
