| Description | From: Thomas de sancto Walerico To: the monks of Canterbury Cathedral Priory
The priory and their servants ('serviens') may come and return through his port of 'Sancto Walerico' [unidentified; possibly St Valery-sur-Somme, Somme, France] and his whole land free from all toll ('teloneum'), pedage and custom for all things for their needs and their own use. If, however, the monks or their servants bring anything from across the seas ('de partibus' transmarinis') in the manner ('mos') of merchants they should render the customs of other merchants. The grant is made for the souls of himself, his wife Adela ('Edel''), his father and mother and all his ancestors and successors and from reverence for St Thomas. No date. [Date: handwriting.]
Witnesses: Mgr Philip le ver; Ingeram the chaplain (' Ingerr' Capellanus'); Robert de Mostellet, knight ('miles')
