DescriptionFrom: Thomas Goldstone, IV, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory
To: Charles VIII, king of France

The kings ancestors granted the priory 100 measures of wine in the castle of Poissy ('in castellaria pissiaci'). Wars between France and England have interrupted the grant, but the king's father [Louis XI] restored the wine to the priory. Because of Louis's genorosity, many years the wine has been received in the city of Bordeaux ('civitas burdegalensis') [Gironde]. The prior asks the king to renew the grant, which has now been interrupted for a few years. Letters 'T G f' on lower right. Dated 2 Mar, no year. [Date: Prior Goldstone became prior in 1495 and Charles died in 1498.]
