Description | Arbitrators: Eustace, bishop of Ely; Samson, abbot of Bury St Edmunds; Roger de Rolveston, dean of Lincoln Cathedral
Roger has been appointed in place of [Hugh of Avalon,] bishop of Lincoln. Concerning the dispute between Hubert [Walter], archbishop of Canterbury, and the prior [Geoffrey, II] and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory over the archbishop's proposal to build a collegiate church with a community of secular canons at Lambeth [Surrey]. Allowing Hubert to build there a house for Premonstratensian Canons, with specified conditions for its site, endowment and purpose. Also concerning disputes over the churches of Monkton, Eastry, Meopham and Eynsford [all Kent]. They are to be held for their lives by the clerks who hold them at present. These are, respectively, Simon, archdeacon of Wells, Mgr Ralph de St Martin, Virgil, and [John Bellesmains], former archbishop of Lyons. Also concerning offerings from the priory's manors and disputed marshlands, moors and fisheries. Subscribed with sealing clauses by Hubert and Geoffrey.
