Description | From: Bernard Roiardi, archdeacon of Xanten [Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany], papal chaplain, auditor of contradictory letters
Mgr Francus de Podiobonizi, proctor of the prior and convent of Dover Priory, obtained papal letters from Pope John XXII, dated 9 Dec 1316, at Avignon [Vaucluse, France]. The letters (not recited) relate to the recalling of a case concerning the illegal alienation of the priory's goods to the cognisance of the bishop of Rochester. Mgr Rudolph ('Rodulfus') de Lacu, proctor of the prior and chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory, opposed the letters, but withdrew his opposition on condition that the priory should not be summoned by these letters and that they should not be extended to it, which Francus promised before Bernard. Letter 'N' at end of document. 'Rid' lacu m' on seal tongue. Given at Avignon [Vaucluse, France].
Endorsed 'dovor'' in late 13th cent hand. |
