Description | From: James, canon of Bologna, doctor of decretals, papal chaplain, auditor of contradictory letters
Matthew Theatin', proctor of the prior and convent of Dover Priory, obtained papal letters of Pope Nicholas III, dated 27 May 1278 at St Peter's, Rome, to recall a case concerning the illegal alienation or distraint of the priory's goods to the abbot of Faversham Abbey as judge. Philip de Pemonte, clerk, proctor of the prior and chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory, opposed the letters, but withdrew his objection on condition that the letters may not be used to sue the cathedral priory, to which the other party agreed. Given at St Peter's, Rome [Roma, Italy].
Endorsed with description in late 13th cent hands. |
