Description | Acta before the archdeacons of London ('maior'') and Middlesex [Mgr Richard de Swinfield and Mgr Ralph de Baldock], commissaries of John Pecham, archbishop of Canterbury, in the chapter house of St Paul's Cathedral, London, on 19 Oct 1282. The archbishop is papal judge delegate in a case of appeal and restoration between the subprior of Dover Priory, who is acting as proctor for himself and his convent, and the prior of Dover Priory, originally plaintiffs ('pars actrix'), and the prior and chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory and Geoffrey of Romney, monk of the same church, originally defendants ('pars rea'), whose proctor is Hugh de Dereby, clerk, substituting for John of Dover. The case for restoration is being brought by the cathedral priory. Documents as specified (wholly or partly recited) were read. Hugh and the judges asked the prior of Dover [Anselm of Eastry] whether he wished to prosecute the cases referred to. The prior and Hugh requested copies of various documents and the judges ordered these to be made. 12 Nov was appointed as the day for the next sitting.
