Description | Acta before the official of the court of Canterbury, commissary of Robert Kilwardby, archbishop of Canterbury, in St Mary-le-Bow church, London, on 17 Apr 1274. The archbishop is acting as papal judge delegate in a case between the subprior and convent of Dover Priory, represented by the subprior as its proctor, and the priory and chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory, whose proctor is Henry of Deopham, their fellow monk, concerning the breaking of a confirmation sought by the cathedral priory from Pope Urban [IV?]. The cathedral priory would not agree to the case being heard at Rome, although the other party had consented to this. The official appointed 28 May as the date for the parties to appear at Rome. If anyone objected to this they were to appear in St Mary-le-Bow church before the archbishop, as principal judge, or his commissary on 26 Jul.
Endorsed with descriptions in late 13th cent hands. One describes the document as the 5th acta and refers to two other acta on the same day, concerning the restoration of a broken composition and compensation for excommunication, and another acta on 15 Mar. The other describes the document as the last acta of remission. |
