Description | Acta before the official of the court of Canterbury, commissary of the archbishop of Canterbury, in St Mary-le-Bow church, London, on 16 Oct 1273, with adjournemnts until 20 Oct. The archbishop is acting as papal judge delegate in a case between the subprior and convent of Dover Priory, represented by the subprior as its proctor, and Geoffrey of Romney and the chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory, whose proctor is William de Burgo, concerning compensation for an unjust excommunication by Geoffrey and other matters. The hearing concerned a dispute about a libel in a citation directed to the priory by the archdeacon of Canterbury, but was adjourned when Geoffrey submitted a claim for expenses in connection with the citation and again when the cathedral priory's proctor submitted a declinatory exception, claiming that the case was pending in the papal court. The official assigned a date of 7 Dec to the cathedral priory to propose the exception, and all other dilatory exceptions, in writing.
