TitleNotarial exemplification of processus
Date13 Aug 1279
Description[Document damaged. Large area of text legible only under ultra violet light.] Exemplification of the processus of the sub dean and chapter of Salisbury Cathedral, dated 12 May 1272 in their chapter house at Salisbury, concerning the church of Longbridge Deverill [Wiltshire].
Recites the mandate of the subprior and chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory, dated 23 Mar 1272 in their chapter house at Canterbury. The priory had been informed that Mgr Martin de Dulting' occupies the church, which has been vacant for a long time. It has the right to collate to the church and, wishing to appoint a rector and acting by virtue of the metropolitical authority which it has sede vacante, authorises the sub dean and chapter to remove Martin if he has no right to the church and confer it on one of their clerks. Also recites the sub dean and chapter's mandate to the official of the archdeacon of Salisbury, dated 15 Apr at Salisbury, ordering him to cite Martin to appear before them on 9 May.
Martin appeared, but failed to prove his right to the church. They therefore deprived him of it and conferred it on Mgr Henry de Braunceston', one of their clerks.
The exemplification and the original were read and heard by Mgr William de Haleberg', Mgr John de Bekles, John, rector of the church of St Mary Aldermary, London, and Simon de Horsham.
Exemplified at the command of Thomas [de Ringmere], prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory.
Notarial sign and attestation of Stephen son of Robert of Shelfanger ('Schelphangr''), notary public of Norwich diocese, who wrote the document.

Endorsed with description in late 13th cent hand.
