Description | CCA-DCc-ChAnt/C/1-104 Catalogued by Bunce under heading of 'Christ Church Canterbury'.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/C/105-143 These documents relate to bishops of the province of Canterbury. Included here is material relating to the consecration of bishops. There are also professions of obedience made by bishops to the archbishop and the Church of Canterbury. For these, see DCc-ChAnt/C/115 and DCc-ChAnt/C/117. The cathedral priory claimed that bishops had to be consecrated at Canterbury, unless it granted special permission to the contrary. These claims were based on the 'Magna Carta Beati Thome', as in DCc-ChAnt/C/120. When permission was granted, the priory obtained 'cautiones' in which those involved with the consecration stated that the priory's rights should not be damaged by any exceptions made. See also DCc-ChAnt/C/35 and 37. DCc-ChAnt/C/120 and DCc/Register/A, DCc/Register/I and DCc/Register/O include transcribed versions of documents of this type of which originals no longer survive.
