A plea entered on behalf of William Molashe, I, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory, by John Durem and Robert Shamele, his attornies, concerning debts which the king's account shows he owes the king for a messuage in St Martin's parish, Canterbury.
The messuage had been held by Agnes hendeman, but an inquisition thad shown that she was an idiot and not competent to govern her lands. Agnes had granted the messuage to John Stonestrete, who subsequently granted it to John Norys of Canterbury, baker ('pistor'), William Fullbourne of Canterbury, tailor ('Cissor') and Thomas Petyman. By a licence dated 11 Apr 1408 (recited), King Henry IV gave permisssion to John Norys, William and Thomas to grant the priory 3 messuages, including Agnes's former messuage, 1 toft and 100 acres of land in the parishes of St Martin and St Mary Northgate, Canterbury, for a light in the newly-built chapel of St Mary in the nave of the cathedral. On 6 Jun they granted these lands to the priory (grant recited). Prior Thomas Chillenden, I, and Prior John Wodnesbergh, II, his sucessor, held the messuage until John Wodnesbergh was unjustly removed from it, following the inquisition.
The prior seeks to recover the messuage.
