The messuage with a house on it which Henry bought of Jordan son of Thomas-the-butcher ('carnifiex') in St Mary Magdalen parish, Canterbury, 16½ feet wide on the king's highway, 16 feet wide in the middle and 9 feet wide at the west end ('caput') and 100 feet long, lying with Jordan's messuage to north, the messuage which was of Gilbert Wareis to south, the land of William Brun to west and the king's highway to east. For an annual payment of 6s, payable as specified upon St Michael's altar in the cathedral for a light for the altar by the view of the keeper ('custos') of the altar, and 1d to Jordan and 1d to Henry as a quit-rent, both payable as specified. Made and recorded at Burgate hundred court. For this Gilbert has also paid 4 marks as a gersum fine. No date. [Date: handwriting and witnesses to other Canterbury charters.]
