Gervase has certain land behind the priory's bell-tower ('clocarium'), part of which he bought and part of which was of Matilda's inheritance. Because the buildings on that land were a danger to the cathedral church, because of frequent fires, Gervase, Reginald and Matilda, of the king's grant and for the salvation of their souls, have granted the land to the priory in exchange for certain land which the priory had in Friday Street, London, which Theodoric, John the priest ('presbiter') and Giffard hold. The priory had previously granted the land in London to Gervase for an annual payment of 20s, but now grants it to Gervase, Reginald and Matilda free and quit of all service. Confirmed with the seals of the king [Henry II, no longer present] and Richard of Dover, archbishop of Canterbury. Document ends 'Testibus his', but no witnesses are listed. No date. [Date: Prior Herlewin's dates.]
