The prior has purchased all lands, tenements, rents and services which John has, or which are enfeoffed to his use, within the lordship and fee of the prior and convent's manors of Caldecote and Barton ('le Barton'') next to Canterbury. The priory will pay John and Joan his wife an annual payment of 10 marks for the term of their lives, payable as specified, with a right of distraint in the priory's manor of Meopham for non-payment. The priory will also pay John £10 as specified and will allow him £20 of the farm of the its manor of Cliffe. John will receive all the profits from the lands from the date of these presents until 30 Sep next, without committing waste or cutting down trees. He will discharge the lands of all rents and services dues from them until 30 Sep and will also discharge the lands for all rents due to Matilda wife of John Payn of Canterbury, fuller. John may hold the priory's windmill at Mongeham for a term of 80 years, for an annual payment of 4 quarters of palm-barley, payable as specified in the priory's manor of Adisham, with a right of distraint in the lands, tenements, rents and services if payment in arrears, as is more fully contained in an indenture between him and the priory. He will enfeoff John Norys of Canterbury, baker ('Pistor'), William Fullbourne, tailor ('Cissor') of Canterbury, and Thomas Petyman of the parish of St Martin next Canterbury with the lands, tenements, rents and services at Easter next, to perform all the covenants on his behalf. The prior binds himself to John in £100 and John binds himself to the priory in £100, payable as specified, to observe the covenants. The purchase is made in the presence of John Wodnesdergh', II, warden of the priory ('Gardianus eiusdem ecclesie') and John Shedwych' of Canterbury. |
