To: the prior and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory

An annual payment of 3s 1d of his free rent in Canterbury, payable for the messuage where Elias the hay-merchant ('fenarius') lives in St Alphege parish, lying between the messuage which Simon the chaplain ('capellanus') son of Walter bues of Canterbury gave the priory and the messuage which Geoffrey and Robert, sons of Luke the mercer ('mercerius'), gave to it. Payable as specified to the monk who is keeper ('custos') of St John the Evangelist's altar in the south transept ('australis crux') of the cathedral. Made and recorded at the prior's capital court ('capitalis curia') and the borough moot of the city of Canterbury. For this the priory has also paid 22s from the offerings to the altar by the hand of 'Dominus' Robert the monk [VI?], its keeper, as a gersum fine. The grant is made for a light and ornaments for the altar. No date. [Date: handwriting and witnesses to other Canterbury charters.]
