DescriptionOn 3 Apr 1305 in Mayfield church [Sussex], Mgr Michael de Berham, clerk, showed to James de Cobeham, rector of Cliffe, a copy of the letters of proxy of Richard de Clyve, priory monk and proctor, and also the appointment by Richard, recited, of Michael as substitute proctor. Appointment dated 25 Apr, sealed with the seal of rural dean of Canterbury, described. Michael also showed the inspeximus of Archbishop John [Pecham], recited, dated 10 Oct 1291, as in DCc-ChAnt/C/291. Seal described. He also read out an appeal, recited, concerning a dispute with the rector over tithes from the marshes of Cliffe, Osterland [in Stoke] and Cooling. Mgr Thomas de Carlton', 'Dominus' Thomas de Stowe, chaplain, clerks, and John de Rising' were also present.
