Simon is vicar-general to Henry [Lexington], bishop of Lincoln, who is abroad. Relates to raising a tax from religious houses and clergy for the maintenance of Peter, cardinal-priest of St Praxed's, and Bertrand, cardinal-deacon of St Mary's in Aquiro, papal nuntios, sent by Pope Benedict XII in 1338 to promote peace between France and England. Recites papal commission. Details of others involved in mission and of expenses incurred. Also for the maintenance of Peter Burgundionis de Romanis, treasurer of Laon, papal chaplain and auditor, papal nuntio. Recites papal commissions to the nuntios. The prior is the collector of the tax, of a farthing in the pound. Other mandates and letters recited. Simon reports on progress in his diocese. Includes reports from Nicholas, abbot of Eynsham [Oxfordshire], and his convent, and from the prior of St Catherine's outside Lincoln.
