John has granted them in free and pure alms lands in the city of Canterbury which he had bought. Namely, some land in the priory holding, lately of 'Gogge' ('fuit Gogge'), lying beside the land of William son of Gregory to south, and extending ('perdurare') to the land of Godard the merchant against ('contra') the land which was of Lambin frese on the other side of the lane. Also, land in St George's parish, lying behind the land of Roger le blund to south, beside the new prison. For this land the priory must pay 13d annually to the heir of Agemund de Wi. Also, 2 contiguous pieces of land in St Margaret's parish, which lie between the land of John Suetman on the other side of the lane, and the land of Godwin Wendemealt beside the broad way which leads to the castle ('turris'). For these the priory must pay annually 30d to the heirs of Alfred de Welles and 14d to the heirs of Ralph Calvellus. Matilda ('Mahalt'), John's wife, and William, his son, have declared that they will acquit John's debts. The priory will daily give to Matilda during her lifetime a loaf of the monks' bread, 1 'pleinpein', 1 'traversu'' and 3 gallons of the monks' ale, and 1 or 2 main course dishes ('ferculum generale') such as a monk has daily. Also annually a mantle ('pellicia') and pair of boots like the monks have. After her death, no one can claim this corrody. Priory's part of chirograph. No date. Endorsed with description in contemporary hand. Records that John gave the lands when he entered the monastery. Also names of parishes in 14th cent hand.
