Description | From: Drogo of Soles [in Nonington] To: the prior and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory
[Document badly damaged. Large area of text lost or illegible. Most of property descriptions, details of transactions and names of several witnesses supplied from registered versions.] Drogo is bound to the priory in an annual payment of 11d free rent for the light of [the shrines of] St Dunstan and St Alphege, payable as specified to the light in the cathedral church, for the land which was of Beatrix de froxepole, 3 perches 8 feet long and 3 perches 4 feet wide, lying with Drogo's lands to east and north, the land of Richard the spicer ('Spiciarius') to west and the land of the heirs of William le furner to south. He also grants the priory a right of distraint in his land to north for this payment. Drogo also grants the priory an annual payment of 4d free rent for the same light, payable by Michael son of Brithwold ('Brithcwoldus') for his house which lies with the house of Henry the carter ('carectarius') to south, near the bar towards Barton [in Canterbury]. He also quitclaims to the priory for an annual payment of 1d, payable as a quit-rent by Peter the miller ('molendinarius') for the house which he (Peter) sold to 'Dominus' William of Wincheap [in Canterbury], I, priory monk, when he was warden of the priory's [manor of] Colton.
