Description | Sawyer, cited below, calendars this as a grant by King Cnut to Hunuwine, his thane ('minister'), of 1 hide (mansa) at Stoke [Canon, Devon]. [Fragment only remains. The fragment is from the proem and Keynes, cited below, points out that it contains nothing which identifies it conclusively with Sawyer 971. It could be part of another charter phrased in a similar way.] No date. [Date: handwriting.] Original dated 1031, no month. Removed from DCc-MSSB/B by William Urry in Feb 1951 and reunited with another fragment found among uncatalogued manuscripts. |
