Description | Articles of R[ichard] Pikenot' and W[illiam] of Tong, I, against Thomas de Ringmere, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory. The accusations include appropriating the priory's goods to his own use, selling off timber and jewels, selling off gold, rings and precious stones from St Thomas's tomb, being excommunicate for non-payment of the tenth, contracting debts, misusing the priory's seal and preventing 13 monks who had appealed against him from prosecuting their appeal at the papal curia. Endorsed with the exceptions of R[obert] de Cileseia to the articles. He alleges that Richard and William have been excommunicated by the archbishop of Canterbury and that they are rebellious and disobedient to the prior. He also alleges that they broke into the treasury and stole the priory's seal, money, books and other things and that they stole money from St Thomas's altar and other altars. Dated 26 Jan, no year, at Viterbo [Roma, Italy]. [Date: date of related documents.] |
