Description | From: Henry of Eastry, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory; the chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory
[Document badly damaged. Several areas of text lost or illegible. Sense unclear in places.] The prior denounces Robert of Thanet, priory monk, for a third offence of apostasy, because he has recently fled from the priory secretly and returned to secular desires. If Robert presents any letters which appear to be from the priory and sealed with its seal, no credence is to be given to them. The priory is not obliged by any contracts he makes in its name, and does not consent to any appeals he makes. Given at the chapter house of Canterbury Cathedral Priory. Notarial attestations and signs of William of Borden?, clerk, notary public of Canterbury diocese, who wrote the document, Robert of Tunstal?, clerk, notary public of Coventry and Lichfield diocese, and John prick' ('dictus prick'') of Eastry, clerk, notary public of Canterbury diocese.
Witnesses: John de Dene?; Bertram? de Twytham?; William of Hartlip? |
