| Description | From: Guy de Novavilla, canon of Limoges, auditor of contradictory letters
Walter de Meldon', rector of Chart Sutton, Canterbury diocese, obtained papal letters from Pope Honorius IV, dated 8 Jan 1287 at St Sabina, Rome, addressed to the archdeacon of Middlesex and Mgr John de Luco, canon of St Paul's Cathedral, London (recited). This commanded them to undo anything which had been done to William's prejudice since he went to Rome on pilgrimage and on the business of his church. Nicholas de Sancto Victor', proctor of the prior and chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory, opposed the letters on behalf of the priory and its reeves, bailiffs and other officials, so that they should not be summoned by these letters and the letters should not be extended to them, which the other party promised before Guy. Dated 15 Kal Jan in mistake for 15 Kal Feb [see Sayers, cited below, p327]. Given at St Sabina, Rome [Roma, Italy].
Endorsed with description in late 13th cent hands. |
