Addressed to all the sons of holy mother church. The priory grant Gervase its land of Chichester which is called 'sapecre' [in Southease, Sussex]. For an annual payment of 600 cuttle fish ('sepia'), the best and well-prepared, payable as specified, to be carried by Gervase to the priory's manor of 'ferleiham' [unidentified, Sussex?] at his own cost. The addressees are asked to support Gervase in the priory's causes. The agreement shall last as long as Gervase pays the cuttle fish, remains faithful to the priory and keeps its men well. He has sworn on the gospels in the priory's chapter house that he will keep the agreement, but if he fails he will lose possession. Dated 1172, no month.
