| Description | From: Edward III, king of England To: Bertram de Twytham Edward II gave the prior and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory licence to acquire lands, tenements and rents to an annual value of £20 for the maintenance of 7 chaplains to celebrate mass each day in the chapel of St Thomas next to the priory gate [in the almonry] for the souls of himself, his ancestors and all the faithful departed, the statute of mortmain not withstanding. The king's wishing to give effect to his father's grant, gives Bertram licence to grant the priory a messuage in St Alphege parish, Canterbury, which was of John le Keu and which is held of the priory, valued at 20s a year, as was found by the inquiry of Roberty Selyman, the king's escheator this side of the Trent, in part satisfaction of the £20. The king also gives the priory licence to receive the messuage. Sent patent. Given at Kings Langley [Hertfordshire].
