The majority of the documents relate to a dispute between the cathedral priory and the archdeacon in the late 13th century. An account of this is given in M T Bateson, Papal jurisdiction and courts in England in the period 1272-1327 (unpublished DPhil thesis, University of Manchester, 1987), chap 8.
