Description | From: Henry de hok' To: the prior and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory
10 acres of land, lying with the tenement of Gore [probably in Adisham or Eastry] to east, the land of William the fuller to west, the land which William the doctor ('medicus') bought from him to north, and his own land to south. For an annual payment of 2s. He places the tenement which he holds from the priory as surety for the warranty and defence. For this the priory has paid 10 marks as a gersum fine. No date. [Date: handwriting.] On attached parchment slip, passage in Hebrew. Followed by quitclaim in Latin by Solomon 'filius Josce' to any right to the 10 acres bought by the priory from Henry because of any debt from Henry. In Bunce's catalogue, William Urry pasted a transcription of the Hebrew passage, together with a translation into English. The text of the translation, which gives the quitclaimer as Solomon son of Joseph, resembles the Latin quitclaim.
